We are increasingly transferring our wholesale activities from our core market of Germany to other countries. The aim is also to manage the entire value creation chain from our own and external assets here.
In Germany the complete portfolio of the STEAG Group forms the asset base for our marketing activities. It currently comprises eight locations with conventional power generation and over 200 additional plants for the creation of energy from renewable and conventional sources and for decentralized energy provision. We are active in the fields of standard products, intraday trade, controlled energy and power provision agreements for third parties.
We are expediting the further development of our international trading activities. Turkey is a particular focus for future growth. Here STEAG already manages the 60 MW Süloğlu wind farm in Edirne and the management of the 1,320 MW hard coal fired power plant in the bay of İskenderun is also planned. STEAG owns 51% of shares in the power station.
Our trading activities in Turkey are grouped together centrally as "STEAG Enerji Ticareti ve Hizmetleri A.Ş.", which manages the entire portfolio along the value creation chain.
Our focus here is on the following points:
- optimization of conventional power plants from the long-term range to intraday trade
- optimization of renewable systems such as wind farms (successful for the Süloğlu wind farm since 2015)
- power supplies to customers
- hard coal deliveries to power stations and industrial customers
- application options for battery storage systems
With the management of our 108 MW wind farm in Romania we are expanding our knowledge of the marketing of renewable energies abroad. This is a further step in the internationalization of our trading activities. In addition to the power from the wind farm, we also market Tradeable Green Certificates there.
In Colombia, our assets include the hard coal power plant Termopaipa with a capacity of 154 MW. The capacity of this power plant is currently sold to a local partner via a long-term power purchase agreement (PPA). Trading & Optimization also provides support for the future marketing of the power plant capacity – via the wholesale market and/or a new PPA.
