Cogeneration is the conversion of energy into mechanical or electrical energy and additional use of waste heat within a thermodynamic process. This heat, produced in addition to electricity, can be used for district heating or for production processes. The use of combines heat and power technology improves efficiency by reducing specific energy use and specific CO₂ emissions.
